Book REview

September 4th, 2006

By accident I posted my bad review of Zorro by Isabel Allende in the Archives for Sept. I came back here to get this page started. Just post comments to this own about your own books. I can’t wait to learn what you’re reading!

OH, I just finished Me Talk Pretty Someday by David Sedaris, which I loved and loaned to Matt. He is very funny and very gay, but there are insights, too.  Toots

Book Reviews

Zorro, by Isabel Allende should be avoided at all cost. I bought it in Spanish by accident and then I bought it again in English which was worse because I spent more money on purpose for this loser. Allende, who smart friends tell me is a good writer, was commissioned to develop this biography of Zorro, with emphasis on his early life. The first page is written in first person, as a chatty narrator. Imagine my surprise when that person appears in first person again, but not until page 89! All awkward. I like Zorro the Gay Blade much better. I wonder about my book club. The next book we’re to read is The Memory Keeper’s Daughter. I plan to be sick that night. Toots

Smudge

The bold one is Taj, Molly’s new puppy. I babysat him before I went to Hungary and fell so In love that I adopted his sister, the dainty miss in the background. Her name is Smudge because she’ll be as big as Henry’s dog Mudge but she’s black. Get it? I post a better picture soon.

Today I took all four dogs for a four-mile walk. It surprised me that the bouncing high-energy pup was exhausted by the end. We’ve been home over an hour and she’s still asleep.

In case you didn’t know, I had ChiChi put down two weeks ago. She had a huge tumor. The doctor said she had many other tumors as well, which made me feel better about not having her operated on. In addition to not having $1,500, she was prone to seizures. The doctor said she was amazed ChiChi lived as long as she had. The other dogs missed her at first, but now they seem happier because they’re not attacked all the time. Chich was aggressive.

I’ve got a few pictures from my trip to Hungary posted on the Travel page. Molly just returned from a trip to California and maybe she’ll write a little summary. I know she hit Napa. I’m taking a Multimedia course this semester at UD so I’m hoping to work out some kinks.

If you haven’t visited in a while, you’ll find out about your new little sister on the Cleary Sibling Post! Hugs, Toots

The first picture is of the lovely stained glass windows in the stairwells of my hotel, The Hotel Gellert, whose fascade is the third picture. The second picture is the bricks I fell on and almost broke my arm. You can see they are tricky things. I went to the horse farm anyway, though my arm was badly bruised. The last picture is from the cliff in one of the villages we toured. Across the Danube is Slovakia. Budapest is at least as romantic as Paris. We had an evening dinner cruise and I took some video of the lights that cover the bridges and cliffs. The Arts building flashes multicolored neon all over its stone five-story front all night.
